Proposals endorsed at the recent Republican convention in Spokane included calling for an end to: the use of mail voting, the use of machines to count votes and the ability to vote for U.S. senators. Delegates also approved a resolution asking people to stop using the word “democracy” because the term “serves to promote the principles of the Democratic Party, the principles of which we ardently oppose.” In my mind, the MAGA-dominated Republican Party of the present day marches ever closer to a full embrace of authoritarian rule.
