La Center girls track and field athletes place second at districts

The La Center Wildcats girls track and field athletes ran for a school record and earned other top finishes enroute to earning second overall at the 1A District Four Track and Field Championships May 16 at Seton Catholic High School.

The second-place finish sent seven girls to the state meet in Yakima, which took place Thursday, May 23, through Saturday, May 25. Results were unavailable as of press time.



During the 1A District Four Track and Field Championships, the Wildcat 4x200 relay team of Olivia Bankhead, Paige Sherry, Mikaela Bright and Shaela Bradley broke the school record set in 1997.

Bankhead, Sherry, Bright and Bradley qualified for state after the 1A District Four Track and Field Championships, along with Sophia Johnson, who placed second in discus. Bright earned a third-place finish in the 200-meter race. Sasha Pash placed third in the 3,200-meter race. Isabella Higgins claimed second in pole vault and third in the 800-meter race, and Bradley took first in the 100-meter sprint, first in long jump and second in the 400-meter race.
