Two elderly La Center residents were found deceased in their home March 31 in an incident Clark County Sheriff’s Office personnel are investigating as an apparent murder and suicide.

Dead are Milton “Wayne” Allen, 71, and Fay Marie Allen, 70. They were discovered in the their home’s bedroom by a sheriff’s deputy after a family member who does not live at the residence called 9-1-1, saying he had not heard from his mother for several days, according to a Clark County Sheriff’s Office news release. The residence was described as being in the Fargher Lake area in North Clark County, but authorities did not release the exact address in order to safeguard the property.

The relative told sheriff’s personnel he arrived at the Allens’ home and knocked on the door but got no response. He looked through the windows and walked the property without seeing anything other than their cars in the driveway, according to the release.

“Deputies entered the house through an unlocked rear door and found Fay and ‘Wayne’ Allen deceased in a bedroom,” according to the release. “Evidence at the scene indicated ‘Wayne’ killed Fay and then took his own life. A firearm was involved.”

Records show that 9-1-1 had received a hang-up call from the residence March 28. A deputy was dispatched to check on the welfare of the occupants there, but the call was canceled before arriving at the location, according to the release. There is no previous call history from the address, authorities said.

An internal investigation by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office into the circumstances surrounding cancelation of the call is under way and the deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of that investigation, the release said.

The sheriff’s office delayed issuing the news release until Wayne Allen’s son could be notified of the deaths. That notification took place the afternoon of April 2. The investigation is ongoing.
