Posted

Ross B. Hansen passed away Aug. 26, 2021, after a courageous battle with colon cancer.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years Diana; children Eric (Ceres), Dustin, and Heather (Elliot); four grandchildren; parents Glen and Pat Hansen; brothers Robb (Brenda) and Bret (Chantel) and sister Rene; and six nephews and nieces.

Ross was born on Feb. 21, 1959 and spent his childhood in Battle Ground where the Hansen family house was always full of music. He caught the music bug early and began playing guitar in the school band and with local groups. His impressive talent led him to study at North Texas State University where he played in the prestigious “One O’Clock Band” and received his master’s degree in music performance.

After college, he remained in Texas for a number of years, making a name for himself as one of the area’s top guitarists. He played for several celebrities and traveled abroad, including Rome and the French Riviera.

In 2000, he returned to Battle Ground and taught in the “big blue bus” (Technology on Wheels).

Ross then received his master’s degree in education at the University of Portland.

In 2004, Ross became the band director at Fremont Middle School in Roseburg, Oregon, and guitar instructor at nearby Umpqua Community College. Ross made an indelible impact in the Roseburg community as an educator, inspiring countless students in their musical pursuits.

Ross performed frequently in the area with Moments Notice and The Hansen Trio (with nephews Nate and Eli).

Throughout every community he touched, Ross was known as a kind, gracious spirit. Thanks to his passion and dedication, he established himself as one of Roseburg’s most well-respected teachers. He is remembered as a man who loved his family, his students and his music. He will be deeply missed.
