Norma Nadine Horton was born July 6, 1928 in Manhattan, Kansas. Norma quietly and peacefully left us on Dec. 20, 2023.
She was the oldest of six children born to Merle and Flossie Yount. Of her siblings, Norma’s sister, Judy Vaught, is the vibrant sole survivor.
In 1949, she married Loren “Hap” Horton. They moved to Wichita, Kansas, and there formed a family with four children. In 1962, they moved to Seattle, Washington, where Hap had a temporary assignment (18 to 24 months) at Boeing Aircraft Company. As it turned out, they loved the Seattle-Tacoma area and remained there for 27 years. Upon his retirement, Norma and Hap returned to Emporia, Kansas, choosing to be near Norma’s mother and other family members. Hap passed away in 2000 and Norma returned to Washington, this time residing in Ridgefield.
Norma was an exquisite seamstress. In years past, she designed and created bridal and formal wear. Many of the formals were for members of the Eastern Star Chapter in Des Moines, Washington, where she was an active member for over 50 years and proudly served as worthy matron in the early 70s. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and machine embroidery. She delighted in giving her handmade crafts to friends, just to see the smile on their faces. One of her favorite pastimes was to attend a weekly sewing group that met at the Ridgefield Library. She looked forward to seeing her friends and learning about their crafts.
She is survived by her sons and their (spouses), Jim (Barbara), Kent (Janyce) and Les (Mary), and daughter Mary Kay; granddaughters, Rachel (Zoli) Semanate and Kelly Clark (Pat Corwin); grandson Taylor Clark (Jenn); and great-grandson, Bowen Clark.
