In loving memory of Mary Holloway

Posted

Mary “Penny” Catherine Holloway passed from this life to the next after a short illness on Thursday Feb. 3, 2022. Mary grew up in Woodland, Washington where she was known as Penny. She was an avid horsewoman and musician, the latter earning her a full ride scholarship to Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. At Gonzaga, she met her cute ex-husband Michael and her lifelong best friend Maggie Tallman. Mary was a force of nature and never shied from voicing her opinion or standing up for herself or others. She spent 20 years dividing her time between her hometown and Spokane, the town that became home. In her 50s, she obtained her master’s degree in social work and spent her final working years helping abused children and the poor. In her retirement years, she often volunteered with different church groups to help the disenfranchised wherever they could be found. She leaves behind three children John Doheny (Kathryn), Chris Doheny and Heather McAmis (Michael), as well as 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, a dear friend Diane Rambow, as well as countless others who enriched her life.

She was preceded in passing by her brother Peter, father Merritt (Berries), and mother Lois.

A celebration of life will be planned for the summer months when family from distant states will be able to gather.
