In loving memory of Kay L. LaFond: 1940-2021

Kay L. LaFond, 80, of Wayne, Oklahoma, and formerly of Clark County, Washington, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021, at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center. Kay Laura Nixon was born Nov. 22, 1940, in Grandview, Washington, the youngest of two children born to Alexander Valentine Nixon and Edna Rhoda (Inlow) Nixon. She was raised in the Yakima Valley and attended school in Prosser. Kay was an amazing athlete and roping was always her passion. She trick-roped and trick-rode for stock contractor John Van Belle. She competed in breakaway roping, team roping and barrel racing. She married Buck Mosley and they welcomed two children, a son, John, and a daughter, Sandi. Kay continued competing and riding, working in feedlots and raising her young children. Kay later remarried to Jerry LaFond and they made their home in the Amboy area. She was very creative and designed custom tack and also did leather work for her business, Cascade View Tack. Throughout all her years, Kay loved anything and everything to do with horses. She gave lessons and helped sponsor many local kids who dreamed of competing. Kay enjoyed spending time with her friend and companion, Spook Frazier. In March of this year, she moved to Oklahoma to be with her daughter Sandi.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry LaFond; parents Alexander and Edna Nixon; brother Gene Nixon and adoptive brother Frank Perry.

Kay is survived by her daughter Sandi Emond and Bart Collins, of Wayne, Oklahoma; son John Mosley and wife Suzie of Bridgeport, South Dakota; grandson Josh Mosley and wife Seanne King Mosley of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; five great-grandchildren; several nephews; her special friend Spook Frazier; special nephew Duane Nokelby and wife Lisa of Fargo, North Dakota, and many friends. Special thanks to her dear friends, Liz Woods, Roger and Becky McDougal and Kim Hudson for all the help they provided to her.
