In loving memory of Kathryn Gillette: 1951-2021

 Kathryn “Kathi” Lee Gillette was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. She passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 14, 2021 at the age of 69.

Kathi was born on Nov. 8, 1951 in Phoenix, Arizona, to Donald and Margaret Friedman. After living in several different states as a child, she graduated from San Clemente High School in Southern California, and later settled in Clark County in 1973.

A retired psychiatric mental health nurse who received her registered nurse degree from Clark College, Kathi enjoyed people and could connect with almost anyone without judgment. She was open, intuitive, positive, and compassionate, touching many lives. Besides spending time with family and friends, she loved nature, animals, travel, and always learning or experiencing something new.

Kathi was preceded in death by her parents and brother Rick Friedman.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years Doug; her daughter Ann (Jason) Engel of Portland, Oregon; stepchildren Tim Gillette of Big Lake, Alaska, Trina (Donald) Sasse of Moorcroft, Wyoming, Tonja (Carl) Homola of Yacolt, Kelly Abernathy of Kalispell, Montana, Jack (Crystal) Gillette of Toledo and Mike Gillette of Yacolt; 30 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; brother Alec (Amy) Friedman of Memphis, Tennessee; sister Rayann Friedman of Dayton; and sister-in-law Lynn Friedman of Memphis, Tennessee.

Kathi’s faith was central to her life. She was baptized in 1986 and attended confirmation in 1988 at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 22 at Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Yacolt, 35303 NE Amboy Road, Yacolt, Washington, 98675. Arrangements are under the care of Laynes Funeral Home.
