In loving memory of  Gloria "Teddy" Hatton: 1935-2024

Posted

On Jan. 11, 2024, Gloria (Teddy) Dione Hatton went home to her Lord and Savior. Gloria was born on March 7, 1935, in Los Angeles, California, to Virginia and Elsworth Fiscus. Gloria was the only child of Virginia and Elsworth and was given the nickname of “Teddy” at a young age. She had extended family in the area and was close to her cousins and grandparents.

Teddy graduated from Pasadena Junior College in 1953. Pasadena Junior College combined the last two years of high school and first two years of college. After graduating, Teddy worked as a switchboard operator and for her father’s upholstery business.

In 1953 Teddy met her future husband, Linvel Hatton, while he was working for her father. Linvel had recently moved to Pasadena from Ocosta, Washington. They were married on Aug. 13, 1954. In 2019, when Linvel passed, they had been married for 65 years. They raised three children, Tony, Rene (Larson), and Laurie (Cooper).

Teddy and Linvel raised their family in the Pacific Northwest. They spent time in Joseph, Oregon, Aloha, Oregon, Silverton, Oregon, and Sumner, Washington. Their retirement years were spent in Woodland, Washington.

Teddy enjoyed being able to stay at home and care for the children. She was a great cook, seamstress and gardener. She and Linvel had vegetable gardens in the various homes that they lived in. She would often bring native trees and plants from the local forest or would purchase from local nurseries their cast off, dying plants, to nurture back to life. Teddy and Linvel were also avid horse owners and riders. They taught their children how to ride and care for horses. They introduced their grandchildren to horsemanship, and they provided horse riding to local school children and charity groups in the community.

Teddy was a quiet person with a few close friends. After her husband retired, they both enjoyed traveling to see their grandchildren and spending the winter months in warm California or Arizona. Her husband was an avid fly fisherman, and Teddy often accompanied him and was content to sit by the creek’s edge and read or draw.

Teddy was preceded in death by her husband, Linvel Rae Hatton; mother, Virginia Fiscus; and father, Elsworth Fiscus. She is survived by her three children, Tony, Rene (Larson) and Laurie (Cooper); and grandchildren Mike Tersieff, Mark Tersieff, Andrew Larson, Katie (Holeski), Mandy Larson, Thomas Cooper, Daniel Cooper, Virginia (Lopez), Lauren Cooper, and Samuel Cooper. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren, Josiah, Kamin, Sophia, Gabriel, Isabel, Asher, Alora, Leona, Astrid, Lulu, Levi, Ila May, Silas, Isaac, Nathan, Pearl, and Declan.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date. In lieu flowers and gifts, donations can be made to the Luis Palau Association, P.O. Box 50, Portland, OR 97207 or Flying “H” Youth Ranch, 370 Flying H Loop, Naches, WA 98937
