Darrell D. Deschand passed away at home after a short battle with cancer. Darrell was born fourth of five children, in Chewelah, Washington. He moved to Ridgefield when he was a young boy and graduated from Ridgefield High School in 1962. After high school, he joined the Navy. Later, he became a crane operator for Alcoa/Vanalco until the company closed. He then worked for the Vancouver School District Maintenance Department.
He married Maxine (Wurzer) Deschand in 1968. They moved to their farm in Hockinson in 1971, where they raised many animals, but the most memorable was their fallow deer herd. Darrell enjoyed hunting and fishing and later spent a lot of time at the Dollars Corner Moose Lodge playing cards, enjoying music and spending time with his many friends. He was a big prankster at heart and shared the fun with many.
Darrell was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine, his son, Richard, his parents, Pete and Isabell, his sister, Pearl, and his brother, Gary.
Darrell is survived by his companion, Diane Edginton, his son Richard's widow, Lorelle, and children, Lyle (Adeline), Angela (Jason), Darren (Tracy), Reid (Linda), 20 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He loved them all and will be missed everyday.
A celebration of life will be held at the Battle Ground Community Center on Sept. 23, 2023. All friends and family are welcome to the memorial luncheon starting at 1 p.m.
The Dollars Corner Moose Lodge is also honoring him during their music night on Aug. 28, 2023 from 5:30-8 p.m.
