Carmen L. Attebery, 93, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior May 30, 2023, at home in La Center, Washington. She was born Sept. 22, 1929, in Tulare, South Dakota, to Arthur and Alberta McNeely and graduated Battle Ground High School in 1946. She married her husband Donald in December 1947.
Carmen worked as fiscal secretary of La Center School District before retiring in 1980. Carmen enjoyed camping, beach vacations, gardening, word puzzles and reading and was a longtime active member of La Center Church. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; sister, Iris Bouma; son, Scott; grandson, Lucas; and son-in-law, Robert Ferneding.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Ferneding; daughter-in-law, Deana Attebery; grandchildren, Matthew (Becky) Attebery, Kirsti (Daren) Hauswald and Daniel (Jordan) Ferneding; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at La Center Church at 1 p.m. on June 12. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made in her name to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, The Gideons International, or Northern Light Ministries (P.O. Box 55, Rickreall, OR, 97371).
