Home and Garden Idea Fair returns this weekend in Ridgefield

Posted

For over 30 years, the annual Clark Public Utilities (CPU) Home and Garden Idea Fair has been Southwest Washington’s show to inspire homeowners and gardeners with the latest products and services.

This year’s show builds on that tradition and offers many new showcases and features for guests of all ages, a release by CPU stated.

“This year’s fair combines the best of our previous events with several new exhibitors and activities that’ll appeal to everyone,” CPU Marketing and Events Specialist Maxie Mayer said in the release. “With everything there is to try and explore, you might find yourself spending the entire day roaming the fair — even if you came just to purchase some plants or find a contractor.”

Hundreds of CPU employees volunteer their time to produce this free community event. They’ll be hosting sites throughout the show where customers can learn about the utility company’s many programs and services that help customers reduce energy expenses, as well as the utility’s stewardship programs to enhance the quality of life for Clark County residents, the release stated.

“There are many elements of this show that visitors are familiar with and look forward to seeing every year,” Dameon Pesanti with CPU said. “So we always try to incorporate those types of businesses and even those specific vendors, while also trying to bring in a good mix of new folks. This is a year where we are taking a few things in a few different directions.”

The two-day event features over 200 vendors and exhibitors who specialize in

home and garden improvement, as well as several nurseries participating in one of the region’s largest plant sales.

The Energy Efficient Alternative Ways of Living area offers four different housing experiences, whether it is in the back yard or driving across the country with accessory-dwelling units, campers and more from Northwest builders.

CPU employee-volunteers at the electric vehicle garage can answer questions about switching to an electric vehicle and waving goodbye to gas, the release stated.

On the midway, the Children’s Entrepreneur Market features the biggest business ideas from Clark County’s youngest tycoons and a farmers market offering items from local growers, the release stated.

“We as a utility, we love this event because it’s an opportunity for us to really connect with our customers,” Pesanti said. “We are going to be really excited about introducing them to a lot of the programming that we do that they might not be aware of. We’ll have people on hand that can talk to them about all the variety of programs and services that we offer to help them.”

Kids and families will have many opportunities when they visit PowerZone Live. It includes free activities, safety demonstrations, nature-inspired craft projects and more.

Admission is free, but donations of non-perishable food for local food banks or monetary contributions to Operation Warm Heart, a program providing home-heating grants to families in financial crisis, are encouraged, CPU stated.

Event center parking is $6 per vehicle. CPU provides free shuttle bus service from the Fisher’s Landing and 99th Street transit stations.

No pets are allowed at the event, but registered service animals are allowed.

The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, at 17402 NE Delfel Road in Ridgefield. More information is available at homeandgardenideafair.com.
