Here are the upcoming seminars and workshops at Tsugawa Nursery for the month of February:

What to Do in the Garden in February, Sat., Feb. 1, 11 a.m.: This is Tsugawa’s monthly seminar on maintenance in the landscape and garden. Join the experts at the nursery as they begin to ramp up for spring. Many vegetable and flower seeds can be started indoors and now is an ideal time to plant fruit and shade trees. It’s also not too late to do some pruning before plants come out of dormancy. Bring pictures and samples for the experts to look at during the Q & A portion of the seminar. This is a regular seminar on the first Saturday of every month. This seminar is free and open to the public. Space is limited, register ahead online at http://www.tsugawanursery.com/events.htm or call (360) 225-8750.

Getting Started in the Vegetable Garden, Sat., Feb. 8, 11 a.m.: Join the experts at Tsugawa as they share some helpful information on growing early spring vegetables; what’s good to grow and good to eat for the maritime Northwest climate. Growing most of your own food was once commonplace and it’s a lifestyle that’s making a comeback. This workshop will walk participants through some of the varieties they can start growing right away. Also, share ideas about vegetables that grow well as companions and seek to inspire you as you plan the layout of your garden this season. This workshop is free and open to the public. Space is limited, register ahead online at http://www.tsugawanursery.com/events.htm or call (360) 225-8750.

Root-Over-Rock Workshop, Sat., Feb. 15, 11 a.m.: Have you ever seen a tree grasping a steep cliff with its roots or one that seems to be growing right from the rock itself? This workshop will focus on how to create your own little version of these natural masterpieces. The experts will also show you how to carve and drill your rock to prepare it for planting. Workshop fee is $35 per participant and includes plant, rock, pot and soil. Silent observers are welcome free of charge. Previous participants are welcome to bring in their successes and failures to share with the workshop. Space is limited, register ahead online at http://www.tsugawanursery.com/events.htm or call (360) 225-8750.

Inviting Mason Bees to Your Garden, Sat., Feb. 22, 11 a.m.: This class will focus on a wonderful little insect...the Mason bee. Jim from Tsugawa will share with participants his knowledge of these proficient pollinators and how you can encourage them to visit your garden and orchard this season, increasing the abundance of your harvest. Learn about their nesting habits and how to establish an environment that will have them keeping a regular home in your garden. This workshop is free and open to the public. Space is limited, register ahead online at http://www.tsugawanursery.com/events.htm or call (360) 225-8750.

Celebrating 30-plus years, Tsugawa Nursery is a family-owned-and-operated business. The Tsugawa family began berry farming in Woodland in 1947. George and Mable Tsugawa were married in 1950 and raised six children. The Tsugawa family worked hard together to make their farm successful, initially growing strawberries. In January 1981, the Tsugawa family purchased a defunct nursery in Woodland. They opened Tsugawa Nursery in March 1981 with very little nursery stock, but plenty of vision for things to come. The nursery has grown and become well established as one of the area’s best places to shop for garden and landscape plants and supplies.
