Cruise Time: Area repair center offers free vehicle inspections

Posted

As a locally-owned auto repair shop in Clark County, the staff at My Auto Repair Center is doing something different during Fall Car Care Month.

My Auto Repair Center is hosting free auto inspections through the month of October. The center’s philosophy has always been centered around people and making sure people are prepared for winter.

The repair center’s staff members believe their difference from others is membership for “truly affordable” auto repair.  All proceeds from a membership goes towards community giving and ultimately the building of a Community Youth Center.

During Fall Car Care Month, My Auto Repair Center invites anyone who would like to have their cars and tires inspected for winter to call and schedule a free inspection. The experts at My Auto Repair Center will inspect the following:

Heating, wipers & lights

• Make sure heaters, defrosters and wipers work properly.

• Will check and suggest winter wiper blades and use cold-weather washer fluid. As a general rule, wiper blades should be replaced every six months.

• Check to see that all exterior and interior lights work and headlights are properly aimed.

Tires

• Staff will check the tire tread depth and tire pressure of all tires, including the spare. Those who live farther north in Amboy or Yacolt, for example, snow and ice may be a problem in that area during the winter so those residents may want to consider special tires designed to grip slick roads.

• During winter, tire pressure should be checked weekly.

Gas, oil & filters

• The staff at My Auto Repair Center suggests keeping your gas tank at least half full throughout the cold weather to prevent moisture from forming in gas lines and possibly freezing.

• Be diligent about changing the oil and filter at recommended intervals. Dirty oil can spell trouble in winter. Consider changing to “winter weight” oil.

System Checks – Charging, cooling & exhaust

• The staff will check the battery and charging system, as cold weather is hard on batteries.

Pack the Essentials

• Make sure that your ice scraper and snow brush are accessible and ready to use.

• Stock an emergency kit with jumper cables, a flashlight, blankets, extra clothes, bottled water, nonperishable food and a first aid kit with any needed medication.
