Clark County’s recent COVID-19 case rate increases again

Clark County’s latest rate of recent COVID-19 cases increased after experiencing a dip the prior week.

Clark County Public Health’s July 7 report showed 196.1 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population over seven days, up from the 159.1 per 100,000 reported the prior week.

The county’s average case rate continues to be lower than the rate statewide, which is 248.7 per 100,000 in the past seven days.

Recent case rates lag behind the most recent counts of cases. The health department’s most recent case rate was based on activity from June 21 to June 27.

The health department reported 1,044 new COVID-19 cases between June 30 and July 7, more than the 878 reported between June 23 and June 30. In total, there have been 98,772 confirmed and probable cases in Clark County since the outbreak began.

Clark County Public Health’s July 7 report included five additional confirmed COVID-19 deaths and a death suspected to be due to the disease, compared to six confirmed deaths and two suspected deaths reported the prior week. 

The confirmed deaths were a man in his 70s, a woman older than 80, two women in their 70s and a woman in her 60s. The suspected death was a woman older than 80.

The deaths bring Clark County’s total to 851, including 740 confirmed and 111 suspected to be due to the disease.



The number of COVID-19 patients occupying hospital beds in Clark County dropped slightly from the prior week. 

As of July 7, 11.4% of beds had either patients with confirmed COVID-19 or patients awaiting test results, down from the 11.8% reported on June 30. The number of intensive care unit (ICU) beds occupied by COVID-19 patients rose to 11.3%, up from the 9.4% reported on June 30.

New COVID-19 hospital admissions saw a slight drop in the latest data. In its July 7 report, the health department reported 9.8 admissions per 100,000 population in the past seven days, down from 10.6 admissions per 100,000 population reported on June 30.

Total hospital bed occupancy in the county dropped but ICU occupancy was maxed out. The health department reported 95.2% of hospital beds and all ICU beds in the county were occupied, compared to 96.4% of all beds and 96.2% of ICU beds on June 30.

Clark County’s statewide share of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths stayed about the same as of July 7 compared to the prior week. The Washington State Department of Health reported the county had about 5.9% of cases and 6.4% of deaths.
