Clark County Quilters to kickoff 41st year

Posted

Clark County Quilters (CCQ) will kick-off their 41st year in Southwest Washington, at the first 2015-16 General Meeting on Thu., Sept., 10.

Heading the meeting will be CCQ’s new president, Rosemary Griggs, who will serve as the guild’s leader for 2015-2016.

September’s guest speaker, Chris Brunelle Gartin, was an Elementary Art specialist in Vancouver Schools for 30 years, teaching elements of art and design, art appreciation, color, painting, pottery, and textiles. She joined CCQ in 1991-92, and served as resident in 1995-96.

Gartin has had traditional and art quilts juried into the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza, Northwest Quilt Expo, and Pacific International Quilt Festival in Santa Clara, CA. Chris was a Featured Artist with Mary Arnold and Cathy Erickson in 2005.  Over the past 15 years Chris has become passionate in teaching “Color Theory and Its Applications,” to quilters and quilt guilds, along with a variety of quilt-related classes.

Gartin will teach workshops to guild and non-guild members, Fri., Sept. 11 and Sat., Sept. 12. Both workshops are on Color Theory and Color Theory Application. Each 1-day workshop is $40 for members, and $65 for non-members. There is a $10 workbook fee, payable to the instructor. More information and registration forms are available online at http://clarkcountyquilters.org/workshop_sep2015.html.

Clark County Quilters is a nonprofit corporation in Vancouver established in 1974. While the guild has grown significantly over the last forty years, the vision and purpose remains the same. The guild contributes to the growth and knowledge of quilting techniques, patterns and history; provides educational meetings, fun and friendship and to sponsors and supports quilting activities; encourages quilt making and collection; promotes the appreciation of fine quilts; performs community service by participation in quilt-related projects and provides assistance to charities in Clark County and the Pacific Northwest.

The guild is supported by more than 500 members. Membership dues are just $25 per year. Each meeting consists of several opportunities to get involved including piecing, quilting and binding quilts for charity; checking out books from the CCQ Library; participating in the Block of the Month drawing, Round Robin, Mystery Quilt, Secret Pal, Fat Quarters, and more. The guild also has an Outreach program that teaches under-privileged youth to quilt.

General meetings are held the second Thursday of each month, September through June, at the Vancouver Church of Christ, 9019 NE 86th Street, Vancouver. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. and the meeting begins at 7 p.m. Non-members are asked to pay $5 per meeting to help cover speaker fees.
