A two-car collision in southeast Hockinson left a 50-year-old Brush Prairie man dead on Friday, June 24, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Shortly before 10 a.m. on June 24, the sheriff’s office, along with fire and emergency medical personnel, responded to the collision at the intersection of Northeast 212th Avenue and Northeast Powell Road.

The investigation determined a vehicle operated by a 16-year-old, who was not named in the sheriff’s office’s release, was driving northbound on Northeast 212th Avenue with Benjamin Andrews, 50, in the front passenger seat. Another vehicle, driven by Roberta Russo, 39, of Camas, was turning south from Powell Road onto 212th Avenue.

The other vehicle hit the left-side front of Russo’s vehicle, and both rotated and left the roadway due to the force of the impact, the release stated. The vehicle occupied by Andrews hit a utility pole and caught fire. Bystanders used fire extinguishers to keep the fire at bay while others removed the occupants.

Andrews died at the scene after sustaining fatal injuries, the release stated. The 16-year-old was treated at an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Russo was traveling with her children who are 6 and 9, all of whom were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff’s office determined excessive speed was a factor in the collision. It is under investigation by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit.
