BGPD asks for community’s help, support

Posted

Everyone in the community plays a role in keeping the community safe. Awareness and information sharing is one of the most powerful tools in preventing crime.

The Battle Ground Police Department needs to know what is happening in neighborhoods and around the city of Battle Ground. If you’ve been a victim of a crime, report it. If you see or have seen any suspicious activity or it you suspect criminal activity has occurred, say something. As the additional “eyes and ears” of law enforcement, citizens can help reduce crime and increase the quality of their neighborhoods by knowing what to report and how to report it.

Urgent/emergency reporting

If you witness illegal activity in progress or are a victim of a crime, call 911 as soon as possible.

Non-emergency reporting

You may become aware of an incident after the fact, when it is no longer an emergency. The information, however, is still important and the police department still needs and wants to know. There are a few ways you can report non-emergency suspicious or criminal activity:

• Tell someone in person at the Battle Ground Police Department during office hours (Mon.-Fri., 10 a.m.-5 p.m.). The police department is located at 507 SW 1st St., Battle Ground, just behind the fire station near McDonald’s.

• Call 911 and say “this is a non-emergency.” Provide the dispatcher with the information you have and it will be passed on to a Battle Ground police officer.

• Share an anonymous tip online at www.cityofbg.org/tips.

Sharing information with law enforcement gives them the tools they need to protect the community. You can stay informed of crime activity in the city and in your neighborhoods through an online crime mapping system provided by the police department, which is available on the city’s website at www.cityofbg.org/crimemap.

Public safety is everyone’s responsibility. While officers and dispatchers are on the clock 24/7, everyone plays an important role in being aware and sharing information.
