The Battle Ground Police Department recognized a longtime officer recently when it named 18-year veteran Brian Archer the 2023 Officer of the Year.
Archer’s service extends beyond his duty as a police officer, according to a news release. He is extensively involved in community policing and engagement efforts, participating in events like Shop with a Cop and National Night Out, and even playing a pickup game of cornhole with community members at a block party.
Archer was presented with a plaque to commemorate this achievement, which reads, “For his outstanding service to the community, which reflects the mission and values of the Battle Ground Police Department.”
Archer played a significant role in the implementation of the department’s unmanned aircraft system (UAS) program, according to the news release.
“The program has been a great success and continues to develop, thanks in large part to Officer Archer’s contributions,” the release stated.
As a UAS pilot, Archer had the first “capture” when he successfully located a suspect in a felony domestic violence case. The suspect fled on foot and Archer assisted with tracking the suspect using the drone. According to the release, Archer demonstrated creativity and thought outside of the box, leading to the safe apprehension of the suspect.
Archer also serves as an acting supervisor and a field training officer (FTO) for the police department.
“Brian’s dedication and hard work have not only made a significant impact on our department but also on the community we serve,” Lt. Jason Perdue said in the release. “We are proud to have Brian as a member of our team, and we look forward to his continued success in the future.”
