Baby dies following murder-suicide attempt in Salmon Creek

The suspect and a 6-month-old infant victim in an apparent murder-suicide attempt have been pronounced dead, authorities reported.

At about 3:20 p.m. on Dec. 7, deputies with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance with a weapon report in the area of Northwest 152nd Street and Northwest Fourth Place, a sheriff’s office release stated. The 911 caller told emergency dispatch her husband had shot their infant child, her, and then himself.

Arriving deputies entered the residence given the immediate danger involved in the situation and found three people on the ground with apparent gunshot wounds, the release stated. The deputies provided first aid to the people, and medical personnel from American Medical Response and Clark County Fire District 6 were called to the residence.

The suspected shooter was identified as David Stansbury, 42, of Vancouver, according to the sheriff’s office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.



The caller, who has not been identified, was transported to a hospital and taken into surgery in critical condition, the release stated. The infant was taken to a children’s hospital in critical condition.

In a Dec. 9 update, the sheriff’s office reported the infant died of his injuries.

The case is being actively investigated by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Majors Crimes Unit with assistance from the Vancouver Police Department Major Crimes Unit, the release stated.
