Letter to the editor: We’re not in a recession?

Posted

President Joe Biden recently declared that the U.S. economy is not in a recession. This coming from an individual that doesn’t buy gas at the pumps, nor buys his own groceries at the store. However, the United States Department of Commerce reported that the U.S. economy shrank for the second consecutive quarter, meeting the definition for a so-called technical recession.

Why would the president make a statement like this? Because the perceived health of the economy heading into midterm elections is obviously of vital interest to both parties. I say both parties because our leaders from both parties are not doing a great job protecting the people they’re supposed to be supporting. Biden says that we shouldn’t be complaining because he gave us all that money through stimulus.

Umm hello? That’s why we’re in this mess to begin with. The endless printing of money is what causes inflation.

In a postmodern culture where truth is subjective and “perception is reality,” the battle to name and thus frame our financial health will continue. I just hope the American people will have their eyes open to how all Americans are having to cope with the current inflation we are all living with, not just relying on the mainstream media’s fake information. Ask yourself “am I spending more and getting less?” Let your voice be heard this November.

God bless America.
