Letter to the editor: Vote for Sue Marshall to give yourself a better life

Posted

Fellow citizens of North Clark County, next month’s election gives us an opportunity to do something positive for ourselves and our quality of life. We have a distinct choice in the district 5 county councilor’s race.

One candidate is a tired voice from the past with few new ideas and great amounts of negative baggage. His years in the Legislature brought division, disruption, mean spiritedness and abuse on fellow legislators.

The other, Sue Marshall, is a new face on the political scene. Sue is a longtime resident of the county. She has been active in land use and quality of life issues. She is also a farmer, keeping the family farmstead (hazelnuts) operating and thriving in the Ridgefield area. She has a long record of keeping and promoting agriculture and timber, here in the county. She is familiar with county code and the growth management process. She will ensure the county will not be litigated on growth issues. She appreciates wetlands, wildlife and open spaces, and will do her best to protect them. She recognizes the importance of a good rural economy. She is endorsed by the Washington Farm Bureau.

Some of us were lucky enough to be born here. Others chose to move here. I moved to the county in 1989. Since then, the county has lost much of its luster. Roads are deteriorating, crime is up, schools are more crowded, traffic has increased, developments are springing up everywhere, and our overall quality of life has decreased. Why did you choose to live here? Is life as good now as it was then?

It is not presidential, senatorial or congressional elections that shape your day to day lives. Local elections affect your quality of life most. It’s your schools, taxes, travel and recreation. Come election day on Nov. 8, please vote to make Clark County an improved place to live. Vote Sue Marshall. Give yourself a better life.

Jim Byrne,

Ridgefield
