Editor,
As we approach the Feb. 11 election, I want to urge our community to support Ridgefield School District by voting yes on Proposition 12 and Proposition 13. These two levies are critical to addressing significant funding gaps that exist at the state and federal levels, particularly in providing services for our most vulnerable population — students requiring special education. Having dedicated my 29-year career to serving students with special needs, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges that underfunding presents. While we may not always have a voice in state and federal funding decisions, we have the opportunity to make a real difference here at the local level. By supporting these levies, we can ensure that Ridgefield School District continues to bridge the shortfalls created by inadequate funding.
The proposed measures include essential investments that will directly benefit our students. They will help maintain valuable staff support, provide necessary technology and materials, and, most importantly, allow for the addition of a third elementary school. This new school will be vital in meeting the needs of our unique learners by providing dedicated spaces for specialized therapies and education.
Ridgefield School District is committed to ensuring that every student has access to an appropriate and accommodated education.
These levies will enable us to continue striving toward that goal and will have a profound impact on the educational experiences of all our students.
As a community, we have the power to come together and create meaningful change for our schools. I urge you to be part of the solution. Please vote yes on Proposition 12 and Proposition 13, Feb. 11. Together, we can ensure that Ridgefield schools remain a place where every student has the opportunity to thrive.
