In loving memory of Betty June Bottemiller: 1925-2024

Posted

Betty J. (Mayberry) Bottemiller, 99, passed away at her home in Woodland, Washington, on Aug. 26, 2024. She was born May 31, 1925, in Fort Scott, Kansas, to Hugo and Lena (Sexton) Mayberry, to the delight of her three older sisters.

The family moved west, eventually arriving in Ridgefield, Washington, where they lived until Betty was a junior in high school, when they moved to The Dalles, Oregon. She graduated from The Dalles High School in 1943.

After World War II, Betty married her high school sweetheart, Wilfred (Wink) Bottemiller, on June 1, 1946. They lived in Pullman, Washington, while Wink finished his pharmacy degree. After graduation, they moved to Woodland, eventually opening Wink's Pharmacy in 1954, where Betty joined Wink in running the business.

Betty and Wink were very active in school, church and community events while raising their three children. One of Betty's most cherished memories was when she opened her home for Wednesday night senior high fellowship. Many special memories were created over nine years of fellowship for many of Woodland's youth.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Hugo and Lena; her sisters, Edith, Arvilla and Gladys; her son-in-law, Paul Shenk; and her beloved husband of 64 years, Wink.

She is survived by her children. Craig (Melody), Kaye Shenk and Beth Bottemiller; and their families.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024, at the Woodland Presbyterian Church at 756 Park St.

Donations may be made to the Woodland Historical Society at P.O. Box 255, Woodland, 98674.
