Woodland Public Schools has selected Dr. Russell Evans as the new principal of Woodland Middle School. Evans will start in his new role during the 2022-23 school year.

Evans was most recently the principal of North Beach Middle-High School in Ocean Shores, stated a news release. He began his education career teaching world geography and U.S. history at Spring Branch School District in Houston, Texas. Evans later served in a variety of roles in administration as a career and technical education director and assistant principal. He earned his bachelor’s degree in geography, as well as a master’s degree and doctoral degree at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.

“I wanted to find a school district that fit my family and I just (fit) right with the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community serving a large number of students and families,” Evans stated in the release. “Woodland felt like the perfect place for professional growth and for my children to have amazing educational opportunities.”

The release stated Evans was also drawn to the school because of its history in academic achievement and devoted staff.

“I truly can’t wait to meet all of the students, staff, families and community of Woodland,” he stated in the release. “I am looking forward to showcasing all of the great things happening at Woodland Middle School including meeting with the community and engaging with people on behalf of our students.”

Evans, who comes from a family of educators, was further enticed to take the position after visiting the community.

“There are so many individuals at all levels who have truly made Woodland their home, living and working in the school system for years and years,” Evans stated in the release. “This dedication speaks to the heart that Woodland holds for students and the greater community. That’s what my wife and I have looked for since we relocated to Washington from Texas years ago.”

Evans’ wife Stephanie currently works as an elementary school principal. They have three sons and one daughter.
