Woodland Beavers

The Woodland Beavers handled the run-heavy Rochester Warriors in the 2A District playoff round on Friday, Nov. 3 in a 33-8 win.

After becoming 2A Greater St. Helens League champions after their win against Ridgefield High School in week nine and winning with a sizable margin on Nov. 3, the Beavers will travel to Clarkston High School for the first round of the state playoffs. Woodland’s road matchup with Clarkston is slated for 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 11.

In the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s rankings on Sunday, Nov. 5, Woodland received the seventh spot in 2A. Clarkston was ranked 12th in 2A. The WIAA seeding committee gathered Sunday and seeded Woodland ninth and Clarkston eighth, giving Clarkston the upper hand with home field advantage for the opening round of state playoffs.

Clarkston is coming off of a 56-6 win over then 2-7 Grandview High School, while Woodland is coming off of their 33-8 victory over the then 5-4 Warriors.

La Center Wildcats

The La Center Wildcats routed Elma High School, 50-7, on Friday, Nov. 3 in the 1A District playoff round.

La Center earned the 1A Trico League title after the end of the regular season and remains undefeated heading into the first round of the state playoffs. La Center will host Omak High School on Friday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m., slated for La Center Community Stadium.

La Center’s playoff push comes with a twist.

After the week 10 preliminary round, WIAA’s rankings placed La Center third overall in 1A. After the seeding committee made its decision, La Center became the eighth seed and will host the ninth-seeded Omak Pioneers, who finished 5-4 in the regular season.

Pending first-round results this weekend, La Center is in the same part of the bracket as the 16th seed and first overall seed, meaning the higher probability will have La Center travel for the second round if La Center defeats Omak.

Omak is coming off of a 47-17 win over the 6-3 Deer Park High School, while La Center is coming off of a 50-7 win over the-then 4-5 Elma Eagles.
