Authorities say a Rainier, Oregon, man fell asleep behind the wheel while driving south on the Lewis and Clark Bridge Tuesday afternoon and struck another vehicle head-on.

Dana C. Cathcart, 68, is suspected of second-degree negligent driving, according to a Washington State Patrol press memo.

Cathcart's white 2024 Toyota Tacoma pickup crossed the center line near the middle of the bridge around 3:34 p.m. and struck Keith A. Krueger, 65, of Tacoma, who was headed the other direction, the memo states.

The two-vehicle wreck on the state Route 433 injured Krueger, though he was wearing a seatbelt, and he was sent to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center.

Cathcart was also wearing a seatbelt, but not injured.

Both Cathcart's pickup and Kreuger's 2018 Toyota Highlander SUV had reportable damage.

The memo states neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected as factors in the crash.
