Two deputies from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office who were placed on critical incident leave after their involvement in a fatal shooting of a Vancouver man have been identified as the investigation continues.
In an Oct. 21 update, the Vancouver Police Department identified sheriff’s deputies David Delin and Forrest Gonzales as the officers involved in the shooting of Kfin Karuo on Oct. 17. Delin is a three-and-a-half-year veteran of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, and Gonzales has been with the office for three years.
VPD’s update also included more information on the incident that led to law enforcement having probable cause for Karuo’s arrest. According to the update, a victim reported a suspect in a white Ford Expedition drove up to his vehicle, which was parked in the parking lot of the Tola Angkor Asian Market in the 11300 block of Northeast 49th Street. The suspect asked the victim if he was a cop during the incident that took place on Sept. 29.
When the victim told the suspect it was none of his business, the suspect, identified as Karuo, pointed a gun at the victim and told him to leave the parking lot. Video from the victim’s dash camera was used to identify Karuo, who officers said they had probable cause to arrest on first-degree assault.
Weeks later, deputies attempted to pull over Karuo, initiating a pursuit intervention technique near Northeast 122nd Avenue and Northeast 49th Street. The release stated Karuo pointed a gun at deputies, who then opened fire on Karu. Karu was found dead a short distance away from his vehicle with the gun still in his hand, the release stated.
The investigation is ongoing.
