Round up: North Clark County athletes compete at state tournaments

Athletes from North Clark County competed at various state competitions over the weekend.

Here is a roundup of the results.

The Ridgefield girls softball team secured second place at the 2A state championship game after losing in the title game, 8-1, against North Kitsap. The finish was the second best in Ridgefield’s program history. 

The Battle Ground girls softball team came up short of last year’s third place finish as they ended the season with a 19-7 record at the 4A state tournament. The Tigers played three games at state. 

In game one, the Tigers lost to Glacier Peak, 4-3, which was followed by a 5-4 win over Olympia in game two. Their season came to a close after an 8-2 loss to Rogers of Puyallup in game three in Richland. 

Multiple athletes from La Center earned top 10 honors at the 1A track and field state tournament in Yakima on May 25 through May 27.

Davari Grauer competed in the boys 100-meter and 200-meter, earning third place finishes in both. Malachi Wallway secured a seventh place finish in the 400-meter, while Carter Sherry earned fifth in the 800-meter. 

Ella Schoene came in seventh in shot put and Nora Hendrix earned fifth in high jump. 

Other La Center athletes who competed at state, but did not secure top 10 honors, included Logan Hubler in the 1600-meter, Will Simmons in the 300-meter hurdles and Isabella Higgins in the girls 800-meter. The boys 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams also competed

At the 2A track and field state competition, Hockinson’s Celia Racanelli secured a top 10 finish, notching sixth place in the pole vault, while Zieynita Stidum ran in the girls 200-meter event.

For Woodland, Addy Siemer finished in fifth place in the high jump, while Hayden Clark threw for sixth place in the boys javelin event. Other athletes who competed at state, but did not secure top 10 honors, included Mariah Stover in the girls 100-meter hurdles and Collett MacDonald in the girls shot put event.

For Ridgefield, McKenna Calkins earned fourth place in the 100-meter and also ran in the 200-meter. In the 110-meter hurdles, Isaiah Cowley earned sixth while Landon Kelsey earned eighth. In the 300-meter hurdles, Cowley achieved second while Kelsey earned fifth. Kelsey also achieved third place in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump.



Danica Allen came in sixth in the 1600-meter and Charlize Kellmer finished in ninth place in the 3200-meter. Sarah Proctor earned 10th place in pole vault, while the girls 4x100-meter relay finished in second place and the girls 4x400-meter relay came in third.

Other Ridgefield athletes who competed at state included Michael King in the boys 100-meter and 200-meter runs. Timothy Bradshaw, Evan Hollis and Davis Sullivan qualified for the boys 800-meter, while Liam Rapp ran in the 1600-meter. Britney Ketels competed in the 300-meter hurdles, while Madison Ruddy competed in the girls 100-meter hurdles and in the triple jump.

Ridgefield’s 4x100 and 4x400 boys relay teams also competed.

In 3A track and field, Prairie sent athletes to the state tournament from May 25 to May 27 in Tacoma.

Prairie’s only top 10 finish came from Alex Juhl, who earned eighth place in javelin. 

Other athletes who competed at state for Prairie include Ethan Cabral in boys 400-meter, Ayden Walker in the 800-meter, Will Foster in the boys discus and Alex Ford in the boys high jump event. Ty Allinger competed in the long jump event, while Evan Davis qualified for the boys triple jump and Diamond Doutrive qualified for the girls high jump event.

In 4A track and field, Faizah Ford was Battle Ground’s lone state championship qualifier in the girls long jump at the state tournament in Tacoma. Ford secured fourth place. 

In the 1A girls golf state championship, Sabrina Joner, of La Center, shot a 99 and a 95, which was good for a ninth place tie at the Riverside Golf Club in Chehalis. 

In the 2A boys golf state championship, Dane Huddleston, of Woodland, shot a 73 and 72 that tied him for eighth place at the Liberty Lake Golf Course in Liberty Lake. 

“To be honest, it was a little disappointing,” Huddleston said. “I know I could have played a lot better. I just didn’t really have my stuff this week, but it was a fun experience overall.”

Huddleston fell short of his expectations after a second practice round score of 67, he added. He will move on to play college golf at Utah Valley University in Orem.
