Second-graders at South Ridge Elementary School explored Ridgefield’s agricultural heritage during the school’s second Agriculture Day on Thursday, Oct. 15.
Local agricultural experts and community volunteers led hands-on activities to teach students about farming and the people, plants and animals that support the region’s agricultural industry. School counselors Anne Lamping and Anna Moskal helped organize the event and provided leadership, according to Ridgefield School District.
“By learning directly from local experts, students can make meaningful connections between what they study in the classroom and the world around them,” the release stated.
The annual event connects students with Ridgefield’s agricultural history as the city continues to grow and develop. Organizers hope the activities help students better understand agriculture’s role in the community.
