Ridgefield Pioneer Street project moves to next phase

The Ridgefield Pioneer Widening and Discovery Drive Roundabout Project, now two-thirds complete, has entered its next phase. New traffic changes took effect May 19 and will remain in place through mid-August.

During this phase, secondary lanes of Pioneer Street between Discovery Drive and Royle Road are closed. This includes the eastbound right-turn lane onto South 47th Avenue, the westbound left-turn lane onto South 47th Avenue and the westbound right lane entering the Royle and Pioneer roundabout. Westbound left turns onto South 47th Avenue are also prohibited during this construction phase, a news release by the City of Ridgefield stated.

To avoid extended closures and improve worker safety, one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction in section four. Additional signage, cones, lane markings and flaggers are in place to guide drivers through the work zone.

Final paving is scheduled for September, with full completion anticipated in October. Once finished, Pioneer Street will include two lanes in each direction, improving traffic flow in the growing area, the news release stated.
