Ridgefield man faces vehicular homicide charge in collision that killed La Center teen

A 17-year-old teenager from La Center died in a traffic collision on Interstate 205 on Thursday, Sept. 15.

The boy, whose name was withheld by the Washington State Patrol, was a passenger in a vehicle that was traveling northbound on I-205 as they approached the Northeast 134th Street exit.

The driver, Ethan A. Clonts, 18, of Ridgefield, lost control of the gray 2018 Toyota Camry he was driving and rotated the vehicle to the left.

The car left the roadway and struck a guardrail and a large signpost.



Both occupants were wearing seatbelts, according to WSP.

The 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. 

WSP determined the cause of the accident was excessive speed. Drugs or alcohol were also involved, according to WSP. 

Clonts was charged with vehicular homicide and booked into the Clark County Jail, according to the release.
