Ridgefield Garden Club offers grants for native plants

The Ridgefield Garden Club is offering grants of up to $200 for residents interested in planting native plants. The grants are funded through an anonymous donation earlier this year with the stipulation that asked the club to encourage native planting within the community.

The garden club’s Native Plant Advocates Committee is dedicating the funds to jumpstart residential efforts in using native, pollinator-friendly plants, committee head Heather Gordon said.

Grant applications will be available in two rounds. The first deadline for applications is Thursday, Aug. 1. The second deadline is Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025. The grant applications are available to residents, public entities and small businesses in Ridgefield within the 98642 area code.

Applicants must write about how they plan to use the grant funds to purchase plants, what native plants they will use and send photos of where they will be planted. The grant also gives the garden club permission to photograph the plants and garden area for program advertising purposes.
