Two new members of Ridgefield City Council were sworn in Thursday to fill vacancies left by former councilors who moved out of the city.

During its July 22 meeting, council appointed Rachel Coker to council position 2 and Judy Chipman to position 7, a release from the city stated. The two take the former seats of Dana Ziemer and Sandra Day, respectively.

Coker previously served on the Ridgefield Parks Advisory Board since 2019, and Chipman served on the Ridgefield Planning Commission.

The city received 10 eligible applications for the two open positions, from which council chose four finalists who were interviewed, according to the release. Council initially voted for Clyde Burkle to fill position 7 during a July 8 meeting, but he declined the appointment.
