Road repair work is scheduled to begin on Forest Road 4109, or Silver Star Road, at the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument and District, according to a news release from the U.S. Forest Service.
The work will occur from May 27 to June 30.
This road work was organized and funded in partnership with the Washington state Department of Natural Resources through the Good Neighbor Authority agreement to restore about 4 miles of road along Forest Road 4109, according to the release.
Road work will include gravel replacement, brushing, grading and shaping. Additions such as culverts, water bars and sediment traps will be included to help maintain the new road.
Road work will occur as conditions allow from mile marker 0.0 to mile marker 5.1 along Forest Road 4109. The Department of Natural Resources will also be conducting road repair work on Forest Road 4100 from mile marker 0.0 to mile marker 3.3 at the junction of 4109.
To provide safe passage for rock trucks and heavy equipment operations, these sections of road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday but will remain open on weekends. The closure area will also remain open to emergency services.
Access to the Silver Star trailhead and Silver Star Area may be limited for the duration of road repairs.
