Rego Athletic Scholarship donates to Battle Ground Public Schools student-athletes

Last week, the Rego Athletic Scholarship distributed $29,500 to youth in the Battle Ground and Evergreen School Districts.

The Rego Scholarship began to honor a Union High School football coach who resided in Battle Ground for over 20 years. Coach Mark Rego died in October of 2018 during Union’s perfect football season, during which it captured its first state championship in school history. Rego had tongue cancer, although he never used substances often linked to the disease, Kristen Parkin, who works for Rego Athletic Scholarship, said in a previous 2023 article.

Parkin said the scholarship fund provided 25 scholarships out of 51 applications between $500 and $5,000 this year. In addition, they provided non-monetary, honorary mentions to all of the non-scholarship recipient applicants.

The scholarship also provided Adidas bags with various items from sponsors, including Detroit Pizza, which provided Battle Ground Public Schools (BGPS) district applicants with a coupon for a free personal pizza.
