The R.A. Long baseball team put together a complete performance with the leather and the sticks on the way to a 6-0 over Woodland in 2A Greater St. Helens League play, Wednesday, April 23, at The Lumberyard.
The Lumberjacks plated a pair of runs in the second inning, which wound up being all they would need.
“I feel like we are finally getting into a consistent rhythm with our hitting and defense,” R.A. Long skipper Ryan Littlefield said. “We have a pretty tough 1-9 who all can contribute and have tough at bats. (And) we have a good feeling of confidence regarding who plays each position when certain players pitch now.”
Southpaw Riley Young pitched the complete game shutout for the Lumberjacks. He allowed just one hit and struck out 16 batters on the way to the victory on the bump.
Evan Hart led the Jacks at the plate with two hits and two RBIs. Carson Libby and Jonah Cadigan each added a pair of base knocks and drove in a run in the win.
Jake Sams tallied the only hit of the day for the Beavers.
Gavin Beckley took the loss on the hill for Woodland after allowing six earned runs on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings of work. Trent Blatnik pitched well in relief for the Beavers, striking out two batters over two hitless and scoreless frames.
