The Prairie Falcons softball squad fell short against the Kelso Lassies 3-2 on Tuesday, April 15 in a loss to zero earned runs to start 3A Greater St. Helens League play.

The next day, the Falcons beat school district rival Battle Ground High School 6-2 to sweep their season matchups and outscore the Tigers 14-3 in two games. The Falcons followed up with an 18-6 win against La Center High School on Friday, April 18.

Prairie’s Mackenzie Moore has been all that and then some for the Falcons. In the April 15 loss, she recorded a hit and RBI, but in the circle she threw six strong innings, only giving up four hits and two walks on seven strikeouts in the zero earned run game.

“Mack is a beast,” Falcons head coach Robyn Mask said. “She pitches for us. She hits for us. She’s a lot for us. She carries a big load.”

In the win against the Battle Ground Tigers, Moore added three hits and an RBI and scored two runs herself. For a back-to-back throwing day, Moore recorded seven innings, striking out 12, walking four, and giving up five hits, and once again, no earned runs.

Mask said she is looking forward to facing off against Kelso High School again, which will be on Friday, May 2 at home at 4:30 p.m.

“They’re a great team,” she said. “They pushed us, and I think it’ll be a good game when we play them again. This league has got a couple of good teams that are probably going to make it to state and dogfight, and just have to be ready to play.”

The Falcons faced off against Heritage High School on Tuesday, April 22, but results were unavailable at press time. They next host Yelm High School on Thursday, April 24 in a non-league affair at 4:30 p.m.
