More than 420 seniors crossed the stage in their caps and gowns at District Stadium as Battle Ground High School’s 111th annual commencement ceremony graduated the class of 2026 on Thursday, June 4.

The ceremony recognized the class of 2026’s academic achievements while highlighting the graduates’ resilience and growth throughout their high school years, as the class entered high school amid the world’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 420 seniors now move on to colleges, trade schools, military service and careers, carrying with them lessons learned during their four years at the Battle Ground Public School District’s namesake high school.

“Your time at BGHS is ending, but the doors will always be open for you,” principal Heather Ichimura said to the graduating class. “We are here for you when you are ready to share your celebrations and here if you need continued support. It’s what makes this giant school so special. We are a family, a community, and we mean it when we say, ‘Once a Tiger, always a Tiger.’”

The class of 2026 chose 32-year Battle Ground High School history teacher Jonas Fridriksson as the staff speaker.

“In those three decades, I’ve had the opportunity to teach thousands and thousands of students in our community,” he said in his speech. “And every graduating class leaves behind its own mark on this school. This class is no exception. The class of 2026 is filled with talent and brilliance, character and a strong work ethic. Our future, ladies and gentlemen, is bright.”
