North Clark County athletes compete at Tiger Invite

High school track and field athletes competed in front of a packed stadium at Battle Ground High School on Saturday, March 25 during the Tiger Invite track and field meet.

North Clark County schools competed against teams stretching from the Portland metro area to Tumwater during the meet, which started at 11 a.m. and went past 6 p.m.

Liam Rapp, a senior for Ridgefield, won both the boys 800-meter and 1600-meter as he put forth all of his effort during the final straight away in both races. Rapp finished the 800-meter with a time of 2:03.76, beating the next fastest athlete by .06 seconds. In the 1600-meter race, Rapp finished with a time of 4:34.08 after he came from behind at turn four of the final lap to beat the next best by .58 seconds.

Faizah Ford, a junior for Battle Ground, out-jumped the other girls to achieve first place in the long jump and triple jump events. Ford jumped 16 feet, 8.25 inches, beating out the second place finisher by over a foot in the girls long jump. The girls triple jump was closely contested as the top two finishers were within six inches of each other. Ford edged out her closest competitor with a triple jump of 34 feet, 8 inches.

Ethan Cabral, a junior for Prairie, secured first in the boys 400-meter with a two-second split by running a 50.60 second lap around the track.

Another first place finish for Prairie came from Evan Davis who secured 40 feet, 10.5 inches in the boys triple jump event.

Will Foster competed against another sophomore in the 12-pound boys shot put event. Foster, throwing for Prairie, came in second place with a throw of 46 feet, 8.75 inches. He also secured a third place finish in the boys discus with a distance of 133 feet, 6 inches.

The 1A class La Center Wildcats edged out the 4A Titans of Union to achieve second place in the boys 4x400 meter relay. Will Simmons, Carter Sherry, Parker McKinney and Malachi Wallway finished with a time of 3:41.89.

Shaela Bradley, a junior at La Center, earned second place in the girls 400-meter race with a time of 59.51.



Nora Hendrickx, a sophomore for La Center, earned second place in the girls high jump, achieving a height of 4 feet, 11 inches.

Danica Allen, a sophomore for Ridgefield, finished the girls 800-meter race in 2:28.76, which was good enough for third place. Allen also achieved third in the girls 1600-meter race with a time of 5:17.86.

Grace Clinton, a senior for La Center, launched her discus to a third place finish with a distance of 105 feet and 1 inch.

As the only sophomore in the top 10 for the boys triple jump, Landon Kelsey, of Ridgefield, achieved third place with a distance of 39 feet, 5 inches. Kelsey also achieved fourth in the boys long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 3 inches.

In a three way tie of height at second place, Sarah Proctor, a sophomore for Ridgefield, earned what was labeled a third place finish in the girls pole vault with a height of 8 feet, 6 inches. Celia Racanelli achieved the same height for a labeled fourth place finish for Hockinson.

In the boys 100-meter, La Center’s senior runner Davari Grauer finished in third place with a time of 11.65.

As Rapp secured first place in the boys 1600-meter, teammate Davis Sullivan edged out Prairie’s Logan Bigelow for a third place finish with a time of 4:36.4. Bigelow finished with a time of 4:38.14.

The boys distance medley race ended with Battle Ground’s team finishing in third place as Todd Copper, Sterling Sutton, Zachary Zamora and Caden Ashworth ran for a time of 11:32.54.
