Republicans from Washington’s 18th Legislative District are seeking nominees to take the soon-to-be-vacated seat in the Washington State Senate left by outgoing Sen. Ann Rivers.

On Oct. 20, the 18th Legislative District Committee met to lay out a process to appoint a replacement for Rivers, R-La Center, who has accepted the role of Longview Community Development director and will step down from her role in the statehouse.

Those seeking to take Rivers’ place have until 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5 to complete an application for the seat. Those interested must send an email expressing interest to 18LDChairClarkRepublicans@gmail.com to request an application packet.

The requirements for consideration include:

  • Proof and length of current 18th Legislative District residency
  • Completed 18th Legislative District senator questionnaire
  • Resume including demonstrated background of Republican political involvement
  • Letter of nomination from a current 18th Legislative District precinct committee officer

The 18th Legislative District Committee will select three nominees during a special meeting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, during which nominees will introduce themselves to precinct committee officers. The three nominees will be forwarded to the Clark County Republican Central Committee for ratification.

Those nominees will go before the Clark County Council for the final selection of Rivers’ replacement.
