New sauna and cold plunge business gives Clark County a place to slow down and relax

Tucked among evergreen trees north of Battle Ground is Clark County’s newest spot for relaxation.

Kickback Sauna and Cold Plunge is a hot and cold therapy place owned by husband and wife duo Frank and Roxy Rak.

“We just opened three weeks ago, but our vision started four years ago. Two years ago we actually started building it,” Roxy said.

The facility features multiple saunas, electric and non-electric ice tubs, showers, two bathrooms, and an indoor six-stall changing room.
The grounds also include a fire pit with chairs, a lawn with lounging chairs and a centerpiece display of flowers.

One of the property’s standout features is a whimsical wooden sauna house that Frank spent more than a year building.
“

We had a plan. I was putting a vision together and then life happened,” Roxy said.

In 2025, the Ford dealership where Frank had been a painter for 36 years closed, forcing him into early retirement.

The sudden change in life structure gave Frank and Roxy time to focus on a business they had envisioned four years prior.

“I really got into the sauna and cold plunging because of my knees,” Frank said. “My knees got bad and I was taking a lot of ibuprofen and then she introduced me to this.”

Frank began to incorporate the sauna and cold plunge cycles into his routine before and after his knee replacement surgeries.

“It really helped him during his physical therapy and now and then for personal training too,” Roxy said. “It helped him to be able to do those things easier.”

Seeing the benefits of the sauna and cold plunge cycle, the husband and wife pair decided to share it with their community.

“We need to let more people know about this. More people need to see how this helps your body,” Frank said.

After Frank’s rehabilitation, the couple poured their heart and soul into the development of the business.

“We found ourselves less taking care of us, and more creating this place, and I think that’s why now our heart and soul every single day goes into this,” Roxy said. “There’s not a moment that we’re not eating, sleeping, drinking, talking about saunas and what we can do better.”

When one of them was struggling with the progress, the other was there to encourage and lift them up.

“I wrote on a Post-it note to give myself encouragement ‘if we build this, they will come’,” Roxy said. “For the whole journey, it was moved all throughout our house. It was like a whole pop-up thing and a little surprise.”

In the short three weeks since they opened, Kickback has had several customers and visitors from places including Castle Rock, Portland, Chehalis and Centralia.

“We’ve had a few people from the Portland area and, maybe it’s a different type of community, and they’re like ‘y’all are way too cheap’ but we think about Battle Ground community,” Roxy said.

Frank and Roxy said they wanted to keep their business affordable and give people a place to slow down and connect.

“We want to see that reconnection of people slowing down with the busy lifestyle that we all have,” Roxy said. “One of the best things is watching people come in and their shoulders are up to their necks and everything’s tense, then when they’re leaving everything’s just relaxed on them.”
