Alexander Lee Rogers, the man accused of murdering a 64-year-old woman and severely injuring an elderly man in a Longview home earlier this year, was sentenced Thursday to over 40 years.
Rogers, 51, of Longview, also pleaded guilty on Thursday in Cowlitz County Superior Court to first-degree murder over the death of Dawn R. Peters, of Longview and second-degree attempted murder over the attack on Andrew Peters, 73, of Longview.
He was sentenced to 503.25 months, which is equivalent to 41 years and 11 months.
Rogers originally faced two other charges: failure to register as a sex offender and felony harassment with a deadly weapon.
The attack happened at the victim's home located in the 100 block of Terumi Lane on Aug. 5.
Despite suffering a large laceration to his neck, Andrew Peters told Longview Police Chief Robert Huhta at the scene that Rogers was the person who stabbed him and killed Dawn R. Peters.
He said the attack occurred because he refused to give Rogers' money, court records show.
According to the arrest report, Andrew Peters said he was sitting in the living room when the attack occurred. After Rogers ordered him to sit down or be stabbed again, Rogers attacked Dawn Peters, and she collapsed in the dining room.
Andrew Peters told authorities that as Rogers walked down the hall where other residents were, he pressed a medical alert button on the living room wall and told the dispatcher that a murder took place, as stated in the report.
Rogers then fled from the scene in a black BMW, ditching a cellphone in the process before leaving Washington state.
Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department found the BMW on Aug. 11 in a Calabasas business parking lot.
After searching the vehicle, detectives discovered the jacket, with dried blood on it, that Rogers was reportedly wearing during attack.
The Longview Police Department announced on Aug. 12 that the manhunt ended when Rogers was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department.
