A group of students from Tukes Valley Middle School have brought Your Battle Ground Public Schools back to life more than a decade after the district publication went dormant.
The original newspaper began in 2009 as an insert in The Reflector and ran until 2013. It was rediscovered in 2025 by 6th grader Rye Dilley, who found PDF archives while browsing an old district website.
“I brought the PDF files and a crazy idea to Yearbook advisor, Amy Hanson, who helped me get into contact with the Communications Department—nine weeks before the end of the school year,” Dilley wrote in a statement to The Reflector.
With support from 12 students and district staff, the first issue of the newly formatted magazine was approved on April 11 and completed by May 12. It debuted on June 3.
“I had a lot of fun making this newspaper (now magazine) revival a reality,” Dilley said. “ … I am certainly excited and very hopeful that we will be able to continue this project in the future.”
The mission remains the same: to inform the community and amplify student voices. Issue 001 highlights achievements, programs, and district history, aiming to allow students to tell each other’s stories.
“I am ecstatic to see this publication finished, and I hope to continue it in the future,” Dilley wrote.
