Local group forms education committee ahead of BGPS levy vote

North Clark County Indivisible (NCCI) has formed an Education Committee focused on community education and engagement as local school districts prepare for upcoming levy votes. The Battle Ground School District will ask voters to approve a levy Feb. 10 after two previous attempts, while the Hockinson School District will place a continuation levy on the same ballot.

The committee was created after a member survey found public education to be a top local priority. Organizers said the group aims to help residents better understand what the levies fund, why they matter to students and educators, and how community members can engage constructively and informatively. In addition to sharing information ahead of the vote, the committee plans to encourage respectful dialogue with school district leaders and state policymakers about long-term education funding and policy.

“Our public schools reflect who we are as a community and what we value. This committee is about listening, learning, and helping neighbors show up in positive, informed ways to support students, educators, and the long-term health of our schools,” Education Committee Chair Shila Clark said.

Indivisible leaders said the work extends beyond the February vote, with an emphasis on building lasting civic capacity and shared responsibility for public education in North Clark County.

“This is about stewardship and belonging. Strong, equitable public schools don’t happen by accident. They’re built when communities come together to care for all children and for the future we’re creating together,” Clark said.
