Letter to the editor: Vote Dave Larson for Washington state Supreme Court

Posted

Four out of nine Washington state Supreme Court Justice positions are on the Aug. 4 primary ballot.

The top two candidates for each position will advance to the November general election.

The state supreme court interprets the constitution and decides major cases that significantly affect residents. The court also sets rules for the entire state that govern how every courthouse and case operates, impacting justice for every Washingtonian.

Dave Larson for Position 5 has served as a presiding judge in Federal Way for 18 years, with a high-volume criminal docket. Prior to that, he gained significant court experience as a trial lawyer for 23 years. Larson has been rated “Exceptionally Well Qualified” by multiple bar associations and AV Preeminent, the highest peer rating. He was also re-elected four times. Judge Larson’s innovative criminal justice reforms improved the system and have been recognized nationwide. Larson will continue to work to build a justice system that can be trusted by the people and trial judges, making decisions based on solid legal principles with justice and fairness for all.

Judge Larson was twice recognized as a Hero of Federal Way Public Schools, and was president of the Federal Way School Board prior to his role as a judge. He helped teach street law at Todd Beamer High School in Federal Way from 2009 to 2025 and appeared in classrooms at all grade levels throughout the South Puget Sound.

Larson also coached a rookie robotics team that competed at the FIRST Robotics World Championships against 400 teams from around the world. They finished in the top 25%.
