Letter to the editor: Trump lost, fair and square

Posted

A newly released book, “A House on Fire, Fighting for Democracy in the Age of Political Arson,” authored by Rhode Island Rep. David Cicillini is an excellent summary of our current state of politics and politicians based entirely on his personal involvement and first hand experience.

In the last chapter, I was left impressed with how succinctly he summarized what we are faced with this election cycle. “For its part the GOP no longer has positions that voters can consider. The Republicans chose not to have a political platform in 2020, and in 2022 Senator Mitch McConnell has declared the party will campaign with no idea at all. The primaries have become contest over who is closer to Trump.”

Further, “Sadly, the party that has, since Lincoln, promoted conservative values, policies and principles is dead. In its place has arisen a racist movement that uses modern propaganda techniques to captivate believers.”

Sadly, this script is being played out here in Clark County by candidates running for congressional, statewide and county offices.

His authoritarian style of governing and regurgitating that the 2020 election was rigged months before election day are among the many reasons why Trump lost, fair and square.
