Letter to the Editor: Trump does not offer honesty, ability and accountability

Editor,

America’s next presidential election is upon us, where our vote will determine if we live in a Democratic republic or a fascist dictatorship.

The World Bank announced that the global economies are in better shape thanks largely to the
performance of the U.S. economy. President Biden helped create 15.7 million jobs after COVID, and inflation is 2.5%. The U.S. economy is doing very well, not what Trump would have you believe. How could one consider choosing someone with 11 bankruptcies to lead our economy?

In a recent town hall, young people proved they were misinformed and could’t describe issues we are facing, and if they could describe issues, their information and facts are false.

Misinformation and conspiracy theories are largely designed to create chaos and turn people against one another, which is from the autocratic playbook. It is our responsibility to know the facts, not what a television news network suggests.

It has been proven that Trump and his pundits encouraged the Jan. 6 insurrection on the United
State’s Capitol, where six people died and caused thousands of dollars in damage. How can any American cast a vote for a person who supported these thugs, stood by, watched this attack and continues to lie about winning the 2020 election, which has been proven false.

Former cabinet members, military leaders and most Americans know Trump is a compulsive liar and call him a fascist to the core. How can anyone cast a vote for a candidate convicted of 33 felons and who was impeached by Congress twice? Even long-standing respected members of the Republican Party are voting against him.

At Trump’s request, Republicans in the House, tabled the bi-partisan Emergency National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act on Immigration, that would have provided more resources for border officials. He is using the Immigration issue in his campaign against Kamala Harris. Meanwhile, the 2024 flood of immigrants into the United States has been largely caused by Trump himself. Instead of fixing the problem, Trump has made it worse.

Project 2025, describes destroying women’s rights, ending the Affordable Care Act, end of Social Security administration, dismantling of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, ending discussions on climate change, dismantling of the Department of Education and so on. Authoritarians need an obedient population, and one way to accomplish this is underfunding education, which teaches young people how to think, assess, research and make decisions of their own.

Trump intends to round up legal and illegal immigrants for deportation, extinguish and eliminate political enemies, independent media, major news networks: CNN, NBC and ABC. The end of checks and balances, the dissolution of opposition parties, the suspension of freedom of expression, the right to a fair trial and so on comes right from Hitler’s playbook.

Trump has proven he is an existential threat to America and to democracy multiple times through his actions and rhetoric. Honesty, ability, accountability and integrity is what America needs in a leader.
