Letter to the editor: To do so would suppress all legal citizens of their vote

Heidi O’Conner’s letter in The Reflector said that those who are eligible to vote get to exercise their right to vote. I most heartedly agree, as long as it doesn’t include non-citizens like New York City has agreed to, and as long as it doesn’t include those who are underage or felons. To do so would suppress all legal citizens of their vote. Last election, we had more people exercising that right than ever in our history. She makes the accusation that election workers were threatened without explaining what those threats were. She also mentioned that many had doubts about whether the election was stolen. May I remind her that for all of the four years that Donald Trump was president, many on her side of the aisle said Trump was an illegitimate president and they impeached him twice on false, made up charges. That’s not helpful and promotes mistrust. Democrats have no problem requiring ID except when it comes to one of our most precious rights: voting. It kind of makes you wonder how serious they are about voter integrity.

Health care is a basic right. If by right she believes it shouldn’t be prohibited by cost then she will be woefully disappointed. Nothing is for free. It is a fact you get what you pay for. If you want the government to be the health care provider then keep in mind they will be the ones who decide who gets what and who doesn’t get anything. It’s been said by some in government already that if you do not comply with the vaccine mandates you may be denied health care. Trust me that if this mind set is allowed, it will carry over to many more such mandates.

Education is a basic right. We have to pay for it. We have a right to express our concerns. Heidi lectures us that we must be civil. If parents become a little passionate about their children’s education, it’s because they care. School board meetings provide a mechanism to voice our concerns. The school board members are not allowed to engage with the concerns, leaving many to wonder if we are being listened to or is this merely an exercise to release our frustrations while things will continue as before? The idea that the school union leaders who are people that almost no one knows are making rules that are very troubling and parents need to trust and comply unquestionably is not going to happen. Critical race theory, sex education, equity (who decides that), gender neutrality, are just a few of those concerns.

Heidi says Brent will fight for workers. What rights don’t they already have? What Heidi most likely means is more government intervention with the private sector business. All we need to have good paying jobs is to have the government get out of the way. They can start by ending the lockdowns and mandates. And if President Joe Biden can take the handcuffs off Russia’s oil pipeline, he should be able to do the same for the U.S.
