Letter to the editor: Not the right space for transient RV park

Posted

When did we stop caring about the safety and welfare of our children?

As a retired teacher, mother and grandmother, and a resident of Woodland, I am truly worried that a proposed transient trailer park in Belmont Loop would be harmful to the children of Woodland.

This park is sandwiched into 3 small acres and will be right next door to a day care center and across the street from baseball and softball fields.

Maybe 20 years ago this may have seemed like a good idea, but today we all have watched cities like Seattle and Portland ruined by transients who live in tents, broken down RVs and cars. These cities have resources to combat these challenges. Woodland is a small community with far less resources to keep an eagle eye on this proposed business. The owner himself says he will have CC&R’s to “watch over”his business. He also said he would not be able to enforce these rules and regulations. Where does that leave the residents of our small community?

There has not been one business owner who has thought this proposed plan would benefit Belmont Loop. It certainly would not benefit the day care or the hundreds of kids that play ball across the street. We must remember our first priority is to our youth. A transient trailer park will bring drugs, crime, guns and sex trafficking. It is way too close to the children of Woodland. Due to its location to Interstate 5, it will entice all of these types of crime into our neighborhoods.

I am hoping the city council of Woodland will agree this is not the right space for this transient RV park and will vote it down. Remember the youth of today will be our future leaders and we must protect them at all cost.
